Drifting Sands
National Park The Loonse en Drunense Duinen is a nature reserve in the Dutch province of Noord Brabant. It is over 3500 hectares in size and has been a national park since 2002. It is situated amid the cities of Tilburg, Waalwijk and 's-Hertogenbosch. On the one hand the park is largely an alternation of dry sand drifts and coniferous forest, but also the extensive stream valley zone of the Zandleij belongs to it. In particular, here lies the nature reserve De Brand near Udenhout, with its alternation of coppice woodland, wet meadows and marshy grassland.
The park has the largest drifting sands in Europe and it is often called the Sahara of the Netherlands.
